“The Get Down” Hosted by Ragan Whiteside
Contemporary Soul-Jazz recording artist, vocalist, and songwriter brings her prodigious talent to public radio.
Jazz flutist Ragan Whiteside debuts her syndicated radio show, “The Get Down,” on the AAPRC network. The two-hour weekly show incorporates the music Ragan loves—jazz, R&B, soul, fusion, and funk—into an upbeat, urbane mix. This show works with a wide palate — and it’s refreshing!
An Atlanta resident, Ragan’s talent as a radio host was spotted by WCLK’s Program Director four years ago. Her local show has been a great success. We are so grateful to David Linton (PD) and Wendy Williams (GM) at WCLK for sharing Ragan with public radio nationwide.
Ragan has played music since age 5. After getting her degree in classical music performance, Ragan switched gears and went into contemporary jazz, and has achieved 9 consecutive top 10 Billboard hits as an independent artist. In 2022, she won the Best Contemporary Jazz Artist Award at the Jazz Music Awards held in Atlanta, and in 2023, she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Best Jazz Album. She has also collaborated with contemporary heavyweights such as Patrice Rushen, Bob Baldwin, Kim Waters, Chieli Minucci, Frank McComb, and many more.
